SIGMA RF mount lens information finally coming in February 2024? [CR1]

The world of Canon shooters has been talking about RF mount Sigma lenses for the last 5 years, and to a lesser degree, Tamron RF mount lenses. There have been numerous rumors in the past about Sigma announcing something…. anything in regards to RF mount lenses, but nothing has come to fruition yet.

As we have seen over the last few years, even Canon continues to have challenges producing enough lenses to meet demand, and perhaps Sigma is faced with the same challenges. They have continued to announce X-mount and E-mount lenses, and a few APS-C lenses for the Z-mount.

In a recent conversation that we had with an employee of a Sigma distributor in a certain country that we cannot name, we learned that February may finally be the month that we hear something from the Japanese third-party manufacturer. February is likely to be a big month for the RF-mount.

During the conversation, we learned that Sigma will likely show off, or at least talk about two RF/RF-S mount zoom lenses and a RF/RF-S prime lens early next year. The distributor hasn’t been privy to the exact products Sigma plans to introduce, but they have been notified about the coming demand RF/RF-S lenses would bring.

We say RF/RF-S because we don’t know if Sigma will be bringing full-frame or APS-C lenses when they finally enter the market.

We’re not going to get into the RF-mount licensing process, because at the end of the day, no one really knows how all of that works outside of the manufacturers themselves. We imagine any negotiations or processes between Canon and third-parties are covered by an NDA.

We imagine at least a few of Sigma lenses released over the last year or two have been designed with the RF mount in mind. Below is a list of lenses Sigma has introduced this year, and a few of them would fit nicely into the RF lineup.

Sigma introduced 3 APS-C lenses for Nikon’s Z-mount along with APS-C lenses for Fuji’s X-mount. The new full-frame Sigma glass has been launched for E-mount and L-mount respectively.

New Sigma lenses of 2023

We don’t want to speculate on what sort of lenses Sigma will bring first to the RF mount, but we do suspect at least a couple of lenses above will be part of the initial lineup.
