Two previously rumoured lenses have appeared in a recent patent

In 2023, Canon aggressively expanded its RF lens lineup with several new lenses. Looking ahead to 2024, we anticipate that Canon will continue this trend and focus on developing lenses that have been highly requested by shooters.

Two previously rumoured lenses have appeared in recent patent applications and would surely be extremely popular.

Canon RF 70-150mm f/2L IS USM

Back in 2019 it was reported that Canon was working on another f/2 zoom lens to be a big mate to the RF 28-70mm f/2L USM, this latest patent application shows Canon has continued to work on such a lens.

  • Focal length: 72.10mm – 146.49mm
  • F-number: 2.05
  • Half angle of view: 16.70° – 8.40°
  • Image Height: 21.64mm
  • Overall Length: 217.31mm
  • Back Focus: 13.71mm

We do believe another f/2 zoom is in the pipeline and this sort of lens would be massive in both size and price.

Canon RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM

This year we reported that Canon would add another 70-200 lens to the lineup, but this time with an internal focus design. This is one of the more requested lenses for pro shooters and will likely arrive in 2024.

  • Focal length: 72.12mm – 194.03mm
  • F-number: 2.90
  • Half angle of view: 16.70° – 6.36°
  • Statue Height: 21.64mm
  • Overall Length: 217.47mm
  • Back Focus: 37.98mm

2024 promises to be an exciting year for both prosumer and professional Canon enthusiasts, anticipating the launch of the EOS R1, EOS R5 Mark II, updates to the Cinema EOS series, along with a substantial lineup of new lenses.
