When Mercedes switched to a different rear suspension package, he struggled and his form across the European rounds began to wane, interrupted only by his Montreal podium. A mental reset and the return to the old suspension brought Andrea Kimi Antonelli back into play, and he even outperformed Russell on a couple of occasions. He was stellar in Brazil, with second places in both the sprint race and grand prix.
