Fermin Aldeguer remains admitted to Hospital Universitari Dexeus in Barcelona, and is awaiting medical clearance and an initial assessment of his recovery timeline.
The Gresini rider underwent surgery on Friday for an injury to the diaphysis of his left femur, the long thigh bone located between the hip and the knee.
After being operated on “successfully” by Dr Ignacio Ginebreda, the head of the Limb Lengthening and Bone Reconstruction Unit at Hospital Universitari Dexeus, he spent the weekend at the medical centre while awaiting an initial medical review to determine when he can be discharged and return home. This is expected to happen within the next two days.
“The femur surgery for Fermin Aldeguer was completed successfully. Now it is time to rest. We will provide more information in the coming days,” the team said in a brief statement on Friday evening.
Aldeguer, the best rookie of the 2025 MotoGP season, suffered a heavy crash last Thursday during a private test session at the Aspar Circuit in Guadassuar (Valencia), where he was riding alongside other riders such as brothers Marc Marquez and Alex Marquez, as well as young talents David Alonso and Maximo Quiles.

Aldeguer’s injury is a serious one, and recovery times for an average person would be considerable. However, the doctors treating the Spaniard are urging caution and are referring to the patient’s progress and further examinations before committing to a specific return date.
The official MotoGP pre-season gets underway in Sepang at the end of January with the shakedown test for rookies and test riders on 29–31 January, where Aldeguer cannot take part as a MotoGP sophomore. However, the shakedown does coincide with Gresini’s launch on 31 January, an event scheduled to take place in Kuala Lumpur.
The first official test will follow from 3 to 5 February, ahead of the official MotoGP season launch on 6 and 7 February, once again in Kuala Lumpur — a full week of activity in Malaysia during which Aldeguer is unlikely to be present.
The final test before the start of the season will be held in Buriram from 21 to 22 February, the same venue where the season will begin on 1 March with the Thai Grand Prix, the first of the 22 races that make up the 2026 calendar.
